The Fiddle Sings

Led by Nick Page

Join the Mystic Chorale led by Nick Page this spring with guest Joyce Andersen as we bring our performances back to Cary Hall in Lexington and present The Fiddle Sings, celebrating the joy of making music.

The program will feature a range of fiddle songs exploring Klezmer, Bluegrass, Blues, Dixieland, and Baroque music along with pieces from Eastern Europe and South Africa. We will open with the jubilance of Cat Stevens’ “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out,” followed by J. S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy Of Man’s Desiring” with words of peace by Pete Seeger ; an exciting, mostly English version of “Yidl Mit’n Fidl;” Nick Page’s arrangement of the Serbian folksong “Niska Banja,” which has been sung by over a million singers!; and the upbeat Spiritual, “Little David, Play on Your Harp.” A small auditioned subset of the chorus will sing James Taylor’s “New Hymn” (Note: The Mystic Chorale is a non-auditioned chorus. The small chorus was created to give some a greater challenge.)

We are thrilled to be joined this season by three featured guests.  Joyce Andersen is a remarkable master fiddler and singer/songwriter, about whom Nick Page extols, “Joyce performs with an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other… wickedly joyful!” Listen to her captivating talent on her song “Common Ground“and on the Shaker Hymn “How Can I Keep From Singing,” both included in this season’s program. We welcome back our old friend Billy Novick, swinging on his clarinet, and the always amazing Jonathan Singleton on piano and leading the band.

Come be part of what the Mystic Chorale does best… singing from our hearts, singing as community, making the world a better place, one song at a time.
