Fall 2017

The Folk Revival Revisited

Led by Nick Page

Join 160 Mystic Chorale singers as we honor the creative spirit that reinvented Folk back in the ‘60s, a movement still very much alive in the music of today.  Led by Nick Page, THE FOLK REVIVAL REVISITED celebrates a mix of the old and the new as we change up some of the older songs, letting them evolve. Our repertoire includes an upbeat bluegrass version of Joni Mitchell’s Both Sides Now; a stirring combination of Bob Dylan’s I Shall Be Released and African folksong, Thula Sizwe; Dylan’s Knockin on Heaven’s Door; Phil Ochs’ When I’m Gone;  a uniquely bluesy version of the classic, I’ve Been Working on the Railroad by Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn – all this along with music of contemporary folk writers, Ruth Moody of the Wailin’ Jennys and Carrie Newcomer, accompanied by an old-time band led by Chris Eastburn!

We welcome returning guest Bill Staines, who has traveled more than 3 million miles over the past 40 years, sharing the folk tradition far and wide. The Boston Globe raves, “There is no better writer of instantly memorable sing along choruses in this genre of music!”

Hearing Mystic Chorale sing with Bill Staines is amazing; hearing Bill Staines sing with our huge chorus is an experience not to be missed! Come dive into the fun and passion of this concert!
