Be part of history this fall and experience what is guaranteed to be a transformative Mystic Chorale season! After founding the chorus 33 years ago, our amazing Founder and Artistic Director, Nick Page, will lead THE HEART DANCES, THE SOUL SINGS as his last Mystic performance before he relocates to Missouri next winter. The season promises to pack an emotional punch, balancing explosive energy and tenderness.
Over the decades Nick has shared his soul with Mystic via his musical direction and award-winning musical arrangements; this season will be no exception and will feature pieces old and new.
The season theme comes from a new piece by Nick entitled Halev Roked, with the words “The heart dances, the soul sings.” More songs than ever will feature the chorus as a whole, including Ysaye Barnwell’s arrangement of I Am Determined (To Walk In Freedom) and the anthem, The Storm Is Passing Over (Courage My Soul). Nick is bringing back a few other oldies, including Bernice Johnson Reagan’s arrangement, The Sun Will Never Go Down and Duke Ellington’s Freedom #7. New pieces will include a rousing Gospel song sung by the Jubilee Singers in the 1880s, I’m Gonna’ Sing All the Way as well as a joyous South African song, Ayangena with the words, “Who can prevail without courage?” plus a new Nick Page arrangement, A Simple Shalom, combining Simple Gifts with Shalom Chaverim. And the Mystic Drummers will rock! Hearts will be full as we bid Nick good-bye singing the poignant 1940’s hit We’ll Meet Again.
At the concert on December 8th, Mystic alumni will be invited to join the chorus in singing Mystic favorite, Every Day Is a Day of Thanksgiving.
If you’ve sung with Mystic before, be sure to come back for this one; if you’ve never sung with us, this is the season to give it a go! Join us as we send off the great Nick Page. We’re sure to fill up this season, so sign up early!
You can sign up to sing as an in-person singer or a virtual singer.
VIRTUAL SINGING OPTION – For those who wish to participate from afar or who simply aren’t ready for live singing, we are excited to offer the option of joining as a virtual singer. During these times of Covid, Mystic’s #1 priority is the health and safety of all. We are paying close attention to the latest guidance from the CDC and other sources regarding the spread of the virus and its variants and recommended safety precautions for singing.
We are setting our safety protocols above and beyond what the State of Massachusetts requires. Accordingly, everyone will be required to show proof of full vaccination (including a Booster shot or show proof of a negative Covid test result each Tuesday), wear masks, and confirm a health attestation each week. Any singer who is not feeling well or has been been exposed to someone with Covid will be asked to stay home and watch the livestream simulcast of the rehearsal.
As the season progresses, we will continue to follow CDC and State guidelines and the latest advice from choral singing experts regarding masking and other health protocols.
