Mystic Chorale embarks upon the Fall Season led by Mike Pfitzer.
Dating all the way back to the start of humanity, women have played a vital role in our musical world. Though underacknowledged in the past, songs by women are some of today’s most beloved. This fall Mystic Chorale offers an exciting season celebrating women songwriters, singers, and composers. The November concert will feature solos by singers of all voice parts.
Join 150+ Mystics, led by music director Mike Pfitzer, in KEEP MARCHING: WOMEN’S MUSIC THROUGH THE AGES. We’ll sing favorites, including Love is Like a Butterfly by Dolly Parton, Will You Harbor Me? by Ysaye Barnwell (of Sweet Honey in the Rock), Crowded Table by The Highwomen (Brandi Carlile’s ensemble), Closer to Fine by the Indigo Girls, and Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba. In addition, we’ll sing music by women from nearly 1,000 years ago up to the present day, with vocal arrangements by medieval mystic and poet Hildegard von Bingen, Alice Parker, and Lea Morris, as well as suffragist anthems Bread and Roses and songs from the new Broadway musical, Suffs.
For those who wish to participate from afar, we offer the option of joining as a virtual singer.
Ten weeks of rehearsals begin Sept. 3, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at First Parish Church, 630 Massachusetts Ave., in Arlington. We will perform a rousing concert at Cary Hall in Lexington on Friday, Nov. 8.
We welcome all who sing. Whether you’re a Mystic veteran, have taken a break for a little while, are brand new to the group, or even new to community singing in general, we hope you’ll join us for a powerful and emotionally fulfilling Mystic Chorale Fall!
If you wish to participate remotely, we offer the option of joining as a virtual singer.
