The Mystic Chorale, one of Greater Boston’s favorite community choruses, presents its annual Gospel concert, Simply Amazing, on February 25th at Cary Hall, 1605 Mass Ave, Lexington. Led by Donnell Patterson, the 150-voices-strong chorale, along with featured soloist, Christine DeVaughn, and musicians, Adonis Martin (keys), Domenic Davis (bass), and Jamaal Shoffner (drums), present a spirit-filled performance that will lift you up, stir your soul, and warm your heart!
The concert theme highlights the incredible pandemic hurdles we all have amazingly endured; the hopefulness in Gospel music that transcends boundaries of race and ideology in amazing ways; and the family, friends and loved ones in our lives that who amaze us with their grace. Mystic Chorale sings twelve Gospel gems representing traditional and contemporary gospel, including the world-renowned and beloved hymn Amazing Grace, Deniece Williams’ God is Amazing, and gospel’s trailblazer Hezekiah Walker’s Amazing. Sing-alongs include Good God and I Command My Soul.
The Mystic Chorale will be joined by special guest vocalist Christina DeVaughn.
Christina received her master’s degree in opera performance from the Boston Conservatory, where she was the recipient of the Boston Conservatory Music Division Scholarship. She earned her bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, where she received the Benjamin S. Carson Scholarship Award and the Joan C. Higgins Prize in the Arts.
For over twenty years, she has performed as a soloist in Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, produced annually by the National Center of African-American Artists. She has also been a soloist for Gospel Night at the Pops and with The Orchestra of Indian Hill, The Key West Symphony Orchestra, Pine Valley Symphony and Cape Cod Opera. She has worked with Boston Lyric Opera, the Cambridge Lieder and Opera Company, Chorus pro Musica, the Cantata Singers, and Landmarks Orchestra.
